Decider Strategies' Sandler Criticizes McCormack for Volunteering to Represent Suspected Terrorist

Stu Sandler, former executive director of the state Republican Party now working as a consultant, said this morning the ad will be on broadcast and cable channels around Michigan starting today. Sandler said spending on the ad will top $1 million.
Sandler said McCormack volunteered to assist a group called the Center for Constitutional Rights in its effort to seek civil trials for terrorist suspects detained at Guantanamo.

Sandler Launches Hardworking Americans Committee

Det News:  Super PAC ad claims Stabenow failed to pay taxes
A newly formed super PAC launched an ad campaign throughout Michigan this week that accuses U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow of failing to pay her property taxes while increasing taxes on others.

The Hardworking Americans Committee, a super PAC formed last month to support GOP Senate challenger Pete Hoekstra, placed at least a $1 million ad buy on network and cable stations, according to the group's president, Stu Sandler, an Ann Arbor-based GOP consultant.

Sandler Discusses Michigan US Senate GOP Primary in Detroit Free Press

"Clark is trying to change the dynamic of the race. The question is, can he change the dynamic with the time he has left?" said Stu Sandler, a Republican consultant who managed former state Attorney General Mike Cox's gubernatorial campaign in a 2010 race that featured Hoekstra as well. "He has a very small window."

Decider Strategies' Stu Sandler Featured in MLive

MLive asked Decider Strategies Stu Sandler about the upcoming Michigan US Senate GOP primary.

“Clark Durant really has his work cut out for him,” said Stu Sandler, a political consultant who runs Decider Strategies. “You never say never in politics – and there have been people who make significant gains in the final weeks – but it’s a difficult task.  With under three weeks left, you’ve got to make a whole lot of noise to change things.”
Sandler noted Glenn’s group of activists, about 50 tea party groups that helped him to turn 27,000 nominating petition, has the power to turn the tide. But the margin may be too wide, he said.

Campaigns and Elections: How Republicans Should Talk About the Auto Bailout by Stu Sandler

There’s a misconception that Republicans coldly told Detroit to go bankrupt. That’s completely untrue. Republicans were supportive of a restructuring. Today, the auto industry has improved in Michigan. Republicans and Democrats alike understood that the industry needed restructuring. But Obama taking credit for the auto turnaround offends the hard work of the employees of Chrysler, General Motors, and Ford for that matter.

The president was not the CEO of General Motors or Chrysler. He didn’t work on the line. He didn’t discuss changing the marketing or supply-chain. It’s offensive for Obama and his administration to take credit for all the hard work and all the difficult decisions people in the auto industry made. Autoworkers have their pride.

Attorney Stu Sandler, a consultant to the Michigan Republican Party, has a different take on Collette and some of his Ingham County judicial colleagues.
"There's a disturbing trend coming out of this circuit where some judges seem to be applying the law as they think it ought to be, instead of applying the law as it is written," Sandler said.

Stu Sandler Talks to Campaigns and Elections about the MI Presidential Primary

Stu Sandler, a consultant for the state Republican Party, agrees it'll be a tight result. "It seems like Santorum's cutting into Romney's lead in Oakland [County], but it seems like Romney's cutting into Santorum's lead in Kent [County]," says Sandler. "They've both run good campaigns."
Given Romney's deep roots in Michigan and his status as the frontrunner, a close vote on Tuesday will hand Santorum, Ron Paul and Newt Gingrich a mandate to carry on, at least, through Super Tuesday.

Detroit News Discusses Romney's Defense of Auto Bailout with Sandler

Republican consultant Stu Sandler said Romney, as a Michigan native who grew up around the auto industry culture, simply argues there was a different way to manage the bailout that could have been successful. Sandler said it's a powerful message that will resonate with voters in the coming two weeks before the primary election.
"Something Romney pointed out is 'I'm from Michigan, I understand the auto industry, and I only want it to succeed,' and I think that's something that's been mischaracterized," Sandler said.

Detroit News discusses upcoming Michigan primary with Stu Sandler

Stu Sandler, a GOP consultant, said the endorsements Romney has picked up from most of Michigan's Republican districts are a factor, but he'll be watching where candidates place their advertising and where they map their campaign schedule.
"If you are a candidate who is trying to pick off support (from Romney) the first thing you would do is look outside southeast Michigan, one for cost and two for competitiveness," Sandler said.

Detroit News: Michigan GOP Watches, Waits its Turn

In a little under two months, Michigan could further add focus to the campaign. It will be the first big Midwestern industrial state to hold a primary. A victory in Michigan could be a springboard for a candidate heading into the 10-state Super Tuesday battle a week later.
"It could show a candidate with a lot of strength," GOP consultant Stu Sandler said. "What this comes down to is who has the organization to capitalize on Super Tuesday."
